In The Burger Hole
New Judi Chicago drops this Friday at Lenny's. Feed me: "...inspired by a hole in the sidewalk across from Walter's shoe store near Five Points," Coleman explains. "I can't work out why it's there, but it's quite deep, and it's the perfect size for someone to insert a burger. This led me to the idea of feeding it, putting a burger in there every day and coming back to find it has gone. Of course, Atlanta has cars full of people endlessly shoveling crap into their mouths as they drive from trough to trough, so why not feed the streets, too? 'Burger Hole' could be your mouth or your ass, it's all the same. Really, I'm glad it makes people feel uncomfortable. ... I do like a good burger, though."

Symbol Of Sound Progress
The Hal Al Shedad will be performing for the first time since April of '99 this Saturday nite at the Drunken Unicorn. Call it a reunion or a proper last show, but don't miss it. This was some intense, intricate, and immediate music from an era long gone. Includes Noot member James Joyce on drums and our personal engineer, Ed Rawls. Some Soviet Station will also miraculously reform all for the well being of Mr. Gavin Frederick. 13 years on, this cable still powers the Spirit Of Nashville.

Sticky
Dookie Platters
Residencies:
Every first Saturday at El Myr and every last Saturday at the Highland Inn.
Sounds:
I started off with rap and Southern hip-hop, but now I involve more diasporic African stuff that leads into hip-hop through traditional African music to Caribbean and dancehall. I'm also into Cumbia and South American music that takes its rhythmic cues from the traditional percussion of Africa. So hip-hop, dub step, Cumbia, reggae and Afrobeat are the main genres that I spin.
Complementary drugs:
Definitely a blunt. A fat blunt of some sticky weed and a couple of beers just to get you right. You don't want to go too far overboard.
'Em Sigh
Dean and Leon dropped their first names and got into some crazy shit for this single. Went so far out, they almost forgot about it but apparently decided to release it today to the U n I verse. With appearances from the Noot Fam to boot. Dig it and get it right H E R E.

Q & A
Mathis Hunter’s debut solo LP, Soft Opening, finds the Atlanta music veteran wrestling with the missing link between the cosmic funk of Noot d’ Noot and the face-melting psych rock of Good Friday Experiment. With Soft Opening, Hunter steps out from behind the drums to craft 10 songs of expansive, guitar-driven rock. The album looks to the haze of slow pop and distorted ambiance of such British shoegazer rock acts as Primal Scream and Spiritualized, but tempered by rich, American country harmonies via the Byrds. But the layered vocals have more in common with David Crosby than the ornate twang of Gram Parsons, all washed in waves of colorful nostalgia. The album is a different beast for Hunter altogether, that sidesteps the tongue-in-cheek party-freak vibe of the Noots and the earnest head trips of GFE for a fun, but coolly artistic mode of rock and roll.
You’ve always had a strong psychedelic sensibility, but it’s played up much differently here than it has with the Noots or GFE.
The place where the songs are coming from is just very different. In GFE, I started out as the guitar player but became the drummer because our drummer quit. So it was my job to bring the rhythms. This is a chance for me to get back to playing guitar, and it’s more melodic. The psychedelic thing — me and Justin and Rich are always trying to bring that our of each other, and they’re on the record a lot.

Space Is The Place
Back about 10 years ago, The Spirit of Nashville and I watched it at the White Lodge and were so blown away, we had to rewind the tape and watch it again. Pure inspiration for your weekend, in its entirety!
